Growing up on a small farm in Colorado, Jacob got his first tool belt at the age of two. His first project: dismantling an old VCR. Soon enough, he learned how to repair everything he tore apart; which was everything he could get his hands on. Repairs turned into re-purposing as he discovered he can invent new uses for the old items. Eventually the destroyer became the creator.

Since then, he has dedicated his life to creating stories with his hands. Starting his career early in carpentry, he worked for fine cabinetry makers and home builders. Jacob went to college for film/ TV production where he became the go-to guy for set building and effects.

Wanting nothing more than to be a real life MacGyver, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a life creating something from nothing. Jacob began working for top set design and special effects shops, gaining experience in welding, molding, modeling, pyrotechnics, safety rigging and design, and plastics. He has worked on countless commercials, many for the Super Bowl, with clients including McDonalds, Pepsi, Gilette, Dominos, MTV, Disney, and Washington Mutual Bank. Music videos include AFI's Marc Webb (Spiderman, 500 Days of Summer) directed Love Like Winter. Film and TV work includes Parks & RecMidnight Movie, FlourishZONE 2, MatPat's GAME LAB, The Studio of Tomorrow, IFC's Ultimate Film Fanatic, A Christmas Carol BTS with Jim Carey, The Emmy Awards, HGTV's Rate My Space, Hammer Heads, and more. In addition to production clients, Jacob cultivated a list of home and office clients, where he designed and built offices, patio, kitchens, home lofts, and even product prototypes. It wasn't long before Jacob found his way into the art world, working at Black Buffalo Ironworks, a Bob Dylan company.

In 2016, Jacob founded Spivak Designs, a full service design and fabrication studio.
